Being professionally photographed showed me just how much effort goes into producing the images that we see in magazines. Hair, makeup, lighting, posing and then after all that, Photoshop. The resultant image did look like something out of a magazine!
This process showed me that the images we compare ourselves to are not realistic and it released me from the expectation to look that way on a daily basis.
Now, don’t get me wrong, I do like to get made up for a date or if I’m going out for dinner, but that is because I like it, not because I feel the pressure to look at certain way. The expectation has been taken away and so there is a freedom to look the way I want, when I want.
As a beauty photographer, my goal is to bring this freedom to women. To show women that they can look like the images in the magazines, so they can let themselves be free of those expectations and realise that ‘YOU are beautiful, just as YOU are today’.
